Melissa has been working in the environmental management field in the resource industry for 13 years with particular focus on the Central Queensland coal, gem and opal fields and North West Queensland metalliferous mines. As Director for Coal for the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, Melissa is responsible for the environmental regulation of coal mining in Queensland through the administration of the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and associated Regulations and Policies in relation to environmental impact assessment and compliance for coal mining operations. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science from Griffith University and a Graduate Diploma in Management from RMIT.
Melissa has lived in the Central Highlands since 2004. Melissa’s experience in the region has provided her with the opportunity to obtain high level skills and knowledge in large scale metalliferous mining, small scale mining, non-mining industrial activities, local government issues, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, compliance and investigation work.
She is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
